Stem Cell - /ˈstem ˌsel/
An undifferentiated cell of a multicellular organism that is capable of giving rise to indefinitely more cells of the same type, and from which certain other kinds of cell arise by differentiation. Having the ability to self-renew, can, therefore, help repair damaged tissue.
The body’s stem cells are responsible for stimulating the healing process and regenerating damaged tissues. These cells are capable of turning into the specific types of cells the body needs to promote tissue repair. For example, stem cells can produce tendon, ligament, cartilage, and bone tissue. Unfortunately, when tissues are aged or damaged, they can no longer produce healing stem cells as effectively as they once did.
Regenerative Medicine/stem cell therapy works by injecting stem cells directly into the tissue that needs treatment. Once in place, these cells will produce chemicals that signal a reduction in inflammation and encourage cell repair.

Studies in humans have shown that regenerative medicine can produce healing and tissue regeneration. In some studies, reported success rates are as high as 70-90%. Most patients who undergo stem cell therapy treatments will experience relief from pain and improvement in function approximately 6-8 weeks after treatment.
Studies have indicated that stem cell therapy is generally safe and pose very little risk to the patient.
Not every patient will be a good candidate for stem cell therapy. Patients who are interested in treatments with stem cells should discuss the issue with one of the doctors at Innovative Medical Center. The doctor will be able to explain the possible benefits of regenerative medicine, as well as any other treatment options that may be appropriate.
